Where it all began…
Reframe began as a passion project to help myself simply feel better while photographing, after long wedding days, and the culmination of season after season.
In the beginning of my business I drove hard. I had stepped away from an office job and ventured out on my own. I was excited to create my own path and and I was willing to fight for my own future.
Early on I wanted to be photographing. I wanted to learn and hone my skills both as a photographer and as a solopreneur.
Little did I know that I was setting myself up for quick rise and hard fall.
After a few years of working hard and photographing far too many events my body and my mind hit a wall. I was getting sick more frequently, I no longer felt creative, and every joint in my body was sore.
At that point I knew something needed to change.
I took a step back and looked inward to find what was really bothering me. I found that I still loved to photograph and I loved working with brides and grooms. But my body and mind were struggling.
While I was pushing so hard I left my self-care behind.
I started doing research to find solutions…somewhere to start. It was difficult to find answers. A few friends mentioned similar struggles but there were no stories to relate to. No solutions to try on my own.
So I started troubleshooting and looking very specifically at how I was using my body as a photographer. I started stretching more. I learned about hydration and how to feed myself better. I read about mindfulness and how small practices can add up.
Just like pushing too hard added up over time, taking care of myself started to compound itself. I started feeling better and I started to become energized again.
To this day there’s no resource dedicated to this discussion…so I’ve decided it’s time that changed.
I want Reframe to be a resource for you to turn to before you reach burn out. A place to learn about what your body and mind is going through. A place to learn how you can address your self-care specifically to how we’re using our bodies in this unique career.
It’s time we drilled down to the specifics of how we’re using our bodies and minds in our businesses so we can find longevity and happiness.
Ultimately, we got into this career to take hold of our future and do what we love.
Reframe is here to help you stay on that path.
Sincerely,
Bryan Miller
